Kolab Groupware Solution wins the 2011 CH Open Source Awards in the category “Community Award” for contribution towards Free Software / Open Source which is awarded upon criteria of activity, participation, ease of contribution and participation in the community, usage of Open Standards and quality of the solution. The award was presented 13 September 2011 during a ceremony at the Hub Zürich.

Initially developed 2002-2004 under contract of the under contract for the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), the Kolab Groupware Solution combines security aware design, outstanding scalability for deployments of any size with an unprecedented number of client options, starting with the standard “Kolab Smart-Client” based on KDE Kontact for GNU/Linux, Windows and Mac OS X, as well as Windows Mobile and Maemo/MeeGo. But it also enables other clients, including GNOME Evolution, Mozilla Thunderbird/Lightning, and even Microsoft Outlook through third party connectors. The range of clients is complemented by mobile phone support via ActiveSync and two options for the web client, the traditional Horde Webclient, as well as the next generation Roundcube client. Unlike so many other solutions in its area, customers can get the entire solution as Free Software with professional warranties and support.
